When planning an event there are a lot of things to consider: Reason for Event: There needs to be a good reason to have an event. This could be anything from a birthday party to a bachelor party. As long as it is important to you, it is worthy of having an event. Prepare a Checklist: You need to write down everything you want and need to make your event happen! This means everything from the venue to the napkins. This will help you stay organized and on task. Budget: The budget is the most important thing when planning an event. Without it, there would be no event. You have to know your budget in order to plan accordingly. This could take some creativity. Make sure you update your budget frequently after purchases and plan ahead to stay on track! Event Planning Professionals: If you are a busy person, there are off-commission event planning companies that offer free services to their clients. They can help you with all of your needs for free because they get a commission from the venue, vendors, caterers, and other companies that they work with. They can also help advertise and find sponsors for your event. This could be a much less stressful way to go about planning your special event. I know a great company in the New York area that specializes in this type of event planning, called Event Premiere. www.eventpremiere.com Venues: There are many venues to choose from. Be creative and don't be intimidated! You are allowed to negotiate prices. You should think about lighting when choosing your venue. You may need to purchase extra or different lighting if the venue doesn't accommodate your needs. You also need to think about how many guests will be attending and if the venue needs to accommodate anyone with special needs such as a DJ, band, or handicapped people. Food and Beverage: These decisions will all be made based upon your budget. If there is a lot of extra money in the budget, you will have more freedom with food and beverage. However, it just takes a little creativity to get the same effects if the budget is lower. Theme/Decorations: Themes can be a really fun addition to any event! This is your decision and also another way to be creative. Decorations can be minimal to extravagant and again depend on your budget. Invitations: An event cannot exist if no one knows about it. There are numerous ways to invite people to events that can be extremely cost effective. You can invite people through email or Facebook. You also have the option of sticking with the traditional mailed invitations. It all depends on you budget and what is easier for you. Events are supposed to be fun and bring people together. It allows the host to be creative. Don't stress! If things get too hectic or you don't have time remember it is OK to ask for help. Have an event planner do it for you. That's their job!
