Here in Hawaii, our Governor Linda Lingle is in a political position to sign into law a civil liberties union bill to allow gay marriages. It is quite a milestone for the State. There are yeas and nays to it too. All in all, I feel it is a good basic step towards peace between the gays and heteros. People have choices and one choice is marriage partners. We have on our island quite prominent people who are gay and hetero. Both have contributed to society in positive ways and both are great tax payers too. Both gays and heteros are people who made a choice for their marriage partners, so what is the big issue? Religious practices won't be compromised because throughout history there have been both gays and heteros. This site is a great example of gays in history: http://main.uab.edu/Sites/students/life/safe-zone/33566/. Only now have gays come out of protective hiding. Why even today, the don't say and don't tell attitude still prevails because of protective measures for gays. When you read newspapers you can easily see that there is good and bad in every country. So what is the big issue of marriages between gays that people have a hard time with? Fear of the unknown. I love the movies of Richard Chamberlain especially the Three Musketeers and Four Musketeers. I never knew that he is gay. I love Elton John's music and movies. I did not know that he was gay too! Does it matter? No. Does it make a difference if they're gay? No. Does it matter when they want to marry their partners who are of the same gender? So here in Hawaii where Legislature passed the Civil Liberties Union measure for gay marriages is pending Gov. Lingles signature. It is an awesome time in history for we who live in Hawaii. Already in America eleven States allows some sort of gay marriages and they are: Massachusetts, Connecticut, California, Iowa, Vermont, New Hampshire, District of Columbia, Rhode Island, New York, Maryland and New Jersey. Will Hawaii be the twelfth State in America to allow gay marriages? Life is a struggle whether you're gay or hetero and why not have happiness and let the gays get married? I felt after some soul searching about the topic of gay marriages. They don't force us to be gay yet the laws force them to be hetero. They never bothered me in life and I find them to be just another human with choices. Freedom of choices that in history the world have sacrificed and sacrifices for even today to preserve, yet we don't let gays have choices. Why then sacrifice for freedoms when we don't practice what we preach? What if it was the other way around and gayism was the norm and heteroism was the outcast? There is good and bad in every place as newspapers, magazines and television news reports. Why not give a little happiness for people who suffered the indignity of being outcasts when they are just people who have a difference of preference in marrying? Living as you do in this world I never ever came across a person forcing me to be gay. Letting gay marriages is a bridge to peace between gays and heteros.
